Panasonic Lumix DMC-XS3, Latest Digital Camera with 14.1MP MOS sensor has a high sensitivity

Panasonic not only introduced the new Lumix cameras that rely on high zoom capability. The Japanese company also helped bring a compact camera Lumix DMC-XS3 that rely 14.1 MP MOS sensor with high sensitivity.

This digital camera is designed with a slim shape and body size of 14 millimeters. Although the size is quite small, this camera is claimed to deliver high quality images thanks to sensors that can reduce noise. In addition, this camera also features a 5x optical zoom and 10x zoom intelegent.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-XS3 also has the ability to record full HD video in MP4 format. In it there is also a feature called Intelligent Auto (iA) which enables features like Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection and Intelligent Exposure is done automatically.

For shooting in low-light atmosphere, there is a Handheld Night Shot mode. This mode can produce high quality images with a single shot.

Increasingly diverse operating systems. Therefore, do not be surprised if within a network can terdisi from a variety of devices. Plus, gadgets and electronic devices now have the ability to pass network connectivity.

If the operating system both Windows or Linux fellow, it’s still easy. For use can be done without much trouble. Well if there are some who use the operating system Windows 8 and some of them have access to a printer via the Linux how dong? Easy! This tutorial.

Step 1:

Workgroup liken this step similar to when we want to share files across operating systems. We must do this step in Windows 8:

1. Create Same Workgroup. On the Start screen, click System Settings on the right side and click on System in the left side. Click the Change Settings.

2. In the System Properties window go to the Computer Name tab and see the workgroup name there. Compare with information workgroup name in Windows 8. If the same, you can jump straight to step 4. If different, follow the first 3 steps.

3. Click the Change button that is on the Computer Name tab. After that, in the Computer Name Changes window, click the Workgroup menu in the box if the Member in the column below, the contents of the same name with a Linux workgroup. Press OK to save the changes. When prompted, restart the PC in order to connect with the new workgroup.

Next, use the same naming workgroup with Linux.

Step 2:

To put the printer on Windows 8

Divide and put the printer is not difficult to access. On the Start screen, type in Device and Printers, click Settings and then click the icon. Figure 4. 3. Once the search is complete, Ubuntu will display all the printers on the network are detected. If printermu not listed, click the “Windows Printer via SAMBA” on the left panel. IN the right side window, type the workgroup name created in step 1, and then click “Browse”.

4. Explore the SMB workgroup that appears in the browser, select the computer name, then click on the name of the printer that has dibagipakaikan then click “OK”.

5. You will be taken back to the previous window. Click the “Verify ..” to ensure the printer can be accessed by Ubuntu. If successful, you will get the message “Print Share Verified” like in the picture. If at this stage you have failed, try to go back to step 2 to ensure the printer configuration has been done correctly.

6. Click “OK” and “Forward”.

7. Now you will see a window with three options: Choose the printer from the database, providing PPD file, or do a search in the printer driver

Choose the first option and then check whether the driver for printermu already teredia. If printermu not listed there, select the second option. After that select the PPD file that you have and then click Open. PPD file is a file that contains information such as the printer’s Windows driver which can be downloaded from the Internet. If the second alternative in this step you have problems too, just select the third option to force Ubuntu to find drivers on the Internet.

8. Click the “Forward” button to continue.

9. Enter the printer name information, description and location of the printer in the field provided. Click Apply to continue.

10. Ubuntu will ask you to test your printer. Click “Yes” to try to print to the printer.

11. After all steps finished, you will see the printer connected to the PC Windows 8 appears in the printer list Ubuntu.

Not to be outdone, Ready to Introduce Huawei K3V3 Octa Core Processor newest

MediaTek has just introduced its newest processor Octa Core MT6592. And as same-same company based in China, Huawei did not want to miss. An anonymous source who claimed close to Huawei Huawei revealed that the party has completed the development of the Octa core processors.

The source said that the latest generation K3V3 processor has the ability to run in high temperatures as well as cooling the components inside. By doing so, this processor also increases the standby time of the device.

Previously, CEO of Huawei, Richard Yu said that they will soon introduce the latest K3V3 Octa core processors in the second half of 2013.

Yu said that the processor will have a speed of 1.8GHz and a Mali GPU with 28nm technology in the manufacturing process. This processor is also a processor based on the ARM Cortex A15 architecture.

Logitech headsets and webcams for the business professional

As many of you know, I’m a full-time telecommuter. Although a portion of my work involves some travel, most days I am working from home, and a lot of that involves sitting on conference calls with colleagues and customers/partners.

Until recently, much of that required that I be desk-bound.

Anyone who has to work with VOIP and IP-based conferencing systems such as Skype, Microsoft Lync, Cisco WebEx and Citrix GoToMeeting knows that voice quality is everything if you’re going to have an effective business conversation.

And that means using devices that typically tie you to your desk, such as a wired headset or an Bluetooth/USB speakerphone, such as the Plantronics Callisto, which I have and think is an excellent product.

While there are many Bluetooth headsets and earpieces on the market which are perfectly suitable for mobile phone conversations, few are specifically optimized for use with PCs that have VOIP “Soft Phone” software, and do not deliver what I would regard as business critical voice quality.

They are perfectly fine for short calls, but not ideal when you are on a VOIP conference for as much as an hour at a time, or even longer, particularly when you need to be an active participant and when paying close attention to who is speaking and the clarity of what you are saying is essential.

As we all know about Bluetooth when it comes to audio streams, the farther you get away from the transceiver, the worse the audio gets. So it’s not practical to stray too far away from your PC.

Logitech’s latest wireless headsets have been a total game changer for my personal work situation since I’ve been using them the last few months. I’ve been using the H820e stereo version which retails for $199 but can be found for considerably less.

Installation and use of the headset is pretty straightforward — you plug the DECT 6.0 transmitter and charging base into a free USB port on your PC or Mac, and the AC power cord to power the base. The headset charges on the base when not in use, and has a built-in rechargeable battery.

The operating system recognizes it automatically, and depending on the VOIP program you are using, you may need to alter the settings to use the headset as your primary audio device.

If you’re familiar with the DECT 6.0 1.9Ghz wireless transmission standard, particularly if you have cordless phones in your house that use the technology, you know that you can get some pretty impressive range and not lose any voice quality. That’s exactly what the H820e headset gives you for VOIP calls.

My home office is a good 60 feet away from my living room and around 75 feet from my “breakfast area” which has my espresso machine and a table which faces my outdoor patio and pool area with outdoor furniture which is about 100 feet or so away from the base transmitter.

So regardless of what VOIP software I am using, and where I am in my house, I get the same crystal-clear voice quality as if I am sitting right in front of my PC. For example, this wearable computing podcast that I recorded with Rick Vanover of Veeam was actually done in my living room, while wearing the H820e using Skype.

So the quality of the audio is without dispute. What about the overall design and using it?

The H820e was designed for use for hours at a time. The stereo version is comfortable and after a while you forget you even have it on your head. While I am extremely pleased with the device, I have only a few nitpicks:

First, the “Mute” button is attached to the microphone boom and is recessed back towards where the headphone is. It doesn’t stick prominently out, so you have to sort of feel your way up the boom to finding it.

If you’re away from your PC and are not near the software controls of your VOIP client, and some sort of unplanned audio distraction occurs that you don’t want to be heard by everyone else, then it could take a few seconds to mute the audio while you fumble around with the boom. It would be better if in the next version of this product that they put it on the exterior side of the headphone holding the boom.

It’s a minor annoyance but it’s still an annoyance nonetheless.

The second is the boom mic’s sensitivity to airflow. Now, normally you don’t have a lot of “wind” in an indoor or office setting but in the summertime in Florida, I like to have a fan going in my office for better air circulation.

If that fan is pointed directly at me, it sounds like I am in an outdoor breeze. And if you are actually outdoors (like sitting on my patio and having a cup of coffee) and a little bit of wind picks up, you’re going to hear it if the mic isn’t muted, no question.

Also, if you are a heavy breather, you’ll probably want to have the boom twisted a lot farther away from your mouth than you think you need it.

Despite what I would call these two minor nitpicks I think the H820e is an excellent product and I heartily reccomend it. I’ve also spent some time with their wired headset, the H650e on business trips with my laptop and also on my Surface RT using Skype and Lync, and the audio is just as high quality as the H820e, provided your bandwidth supports the fidelity of the connection.

Not all telecommuting and conferencing is about audio, however. From time to time I do need to do video as well.

My corporate laptop, my Lenovo X1 Carbon is a great little machine but its webcam isn’t its strong suit. When it’s docked to my monitor on my desk at home, I need something that delivers much more robust and HD-quality video.

I’ve written about small busines and SOHO/workgroup video conferencing products before, like Logitech’s BCC950. While the BCC950 is an excellent product for small meeting rooms and for having three to five people on camera at once, it’s overkill for a telecommuter or just someone in a single office.

Enter the Logitech C930e, a “Business” webcam. Like any other webcam it clips to the top of your monitor and plugs into your USB 2.0 or 3.0 port. But this is no ordinary webcam.

At a street price of $129.00 it’s more expensive than Logitech’s consumer/prosumer webcam offerings, but there’s considerable enterprise-class video conferencing technology built-into this little device.

First, provided your bandwidth supports it, the C930e can capture 1080p video (or 15MP stills) at 30 frames a second because it includes Scalable Video Coding using H.264 and UVC 1.5, the second of which is needed to be certified for use with corporate-grade video conferencing tools.

Second, the camera has a 90-degree diagonal field of view so you get a widescreen capture of the subject without any “fish eye” distortion. You also get a Carl Zeiss lens and 4X digital zoom with software pan and tilt control, as well as built-in stereo microphones

Logitech also offers the consumer-oriented C920 which is about $30 cheaper than the C930e, but it lacks the the Scalable Video Coding and UVC 1.5 capabilities used with corporate applications like Lync and Cisco UC and is more suited towards Skype and other consumer video applications like Google Hangouts. It also lacks the 90-degree FOV of its more expensive sibling.

While the two cameras look very similar, they shouldn’t be confused with each other. If corporate video conferencing capability and quality is definitely what you need, you want the C930e.

Facebook Earnings Review: What Wall Street Thinks

NEW YORK (TheStreet) — Facebook’s (FB_) second-quarter earnings focused on mobile revenue. Shares were soaring in premarket trading Thursday as Wall Street raised price targets and upgraded shares.

 The Menlo Park, Calif.-based social networker earned 19 cents a share on $1.813 billion in revenue for the quarter, as mobile advertising revenue accounted for 41% of advertising revenue this quarter. Total advertising revenue was $1.6 billion, 88% of total revenue, and up 61% year over year.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters were expecting Facebook to earn 14 cents a share on $1.62 billion in revenue for the quarter.

The company ended the quarter with 1.15 billion monthly active users (MAUs), up 21% year over year. There was a 51% annual increase in mobile MAUs, which drove the strength in mobile revenue. Daily active users (DAUs) were 699 million, up 27% annually.

Following the earnings, many analysts were bullish, with several upgrading shares and raising price targets. Here’s what some analysts on Wall Street had to say:

JPMorgan analyst Doug Anmuth (Overweight, $44 PT)

“Facebook delivered its strongest quarter yet as a public company–results that we think could be thesis-changing for many–and we would continue to buy Facebook shares even after the ~17% move up in the after-market. Our revenue and nonGAAP EPS estimates increase 12% and 38% for 2013, and 22% and 46% for 2014.”

Topeka Capital Markets analyst Victor Anthony (Buy, $40 PT)

“Facebook needed to, and delivered, a blowout quarter. What is clear from the results is advertisers have validated Facebook as an advertising platform. For full year 2013, our revenue and Adj. EPS increases to $7.196B and $0.71, resp, from $6.733B and $0.63. We still see more upside for the stock and recommend purchase. There are several well defined catalysts over the next two years that should lead to further share price appreciation, including: 1) monetizing Instagram, which, per CEO Zuckerberg, will generate “a lot of profits”, 2) launch of auto-play video ads, 3) monetizing Graph Search, 4) a bigger push into e-commerce, and 5) the potential for S&P 500 inclusion. Further, only 1mm or 6% of FB’s 18mm potential advertisers are buying ads, implying a huge runway for advertiser uptake exists.”

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia (Buy, $37 PT)

“We are incrementally bullish on FB’s prospects following 2Q results and believe the stock should be a core holding in Internet portfolios. 2Q’s highlight was Mobile advertising (+76% q/q versus consensus +20%). Overall revenue (53% y/y) and EBITDA (+57% y/y) accelerated from 1Q’s 38%/35% revenue/EBITDA growth. Better than expected user engagement, strong monetization and good cost control helped FB outperform even the most bullish expectations on the Street. Reiterating Buy.”

Oppenheimer analyst Jason Helfstein (Outperform, $36 PT)

“Following materially better than expected 2Q results, we are increasing our estimates and price target, and are reiterating our Outperform rating. 2Q upside was driven by higher advertiser demand for newsfeed, both on volume and price, and since mobile Newsfeed pricing is similar to desktop and advertisers are largely indifferent between mobile and desktop, revenues are tracking the consumer shift to smartphones. We believe this dynamic is an important differentiator vs. other ad-supported internet companies, that are being hurt by the mobile mix shift. As such, we are increasing ’13E and ’14E revenue by 3% and 5%, and non-GAAP EPS by 7% and 9%, respectively. Raising target to $36 from $32.”

Shares of Facebook were soaring following earnings, tacking on 30.48% to $34.59 in premarket trading.

Yahoo Acquisition of Chinese Startup

Beijing – Yahoo Inc. back shopping. A pioneering company alias startup from Beijing so the target. Is Zletic, a company that provides data analysis services purchased Yahoo social network on Thursday (July 18, 2013). However, the acquisition value is not known how many.
In its website pages, Zletic was pleased to acquire this. Founder Zletic is Hao Zheng, a former employee of Yahoo China. Hao Zletic founded only a year ago.
One of Yahoo spokesperson stated, with this acquisition, the eight employees Zletic will be brought to the office of research and development of Yahoo in Beijing.
This is Yahoo’s acquisition of the 19th under the control of Marissa Mayer. Yahoo under control Mayer likes shopping startup. Mayer wants Yahoo to focus on the realm of mobile and new generations still.
Some time ago Yahoo acquired wide startup Summly, Xobni and Tumblr. Tumblr purchased with cash worth U.S. $ 1.1 billion.

Seven signs of dysfunctional engineering teams

I’ve been listening to the audiobook of Heart of Darkness this week, read by Kenneth Branagh. It’s fantastic. It also reminds me of some jobs I’ve had in the past.

There’s a great passage in which Marlow requires rivets to repair a ship, but finds that none are available. This, in spite of the fact that the camp he left further upriver is drowning in them. That felt familiar. There’s also a famous passage involving a French warship that’s blindly firing its cannons into the jungles of Africa in hopes of hitting a native camp situated within. I’ve had that job as well. Hopefully I can help you avoid getting yourself into those situations.

There are several really good lists of common traits seen in well-functioning engineering organizations. Most recently, there’s Pamela Fox’s list of What to look for in a software engineering culture. More famous, but somewhat dated at this point, is Joel Spolsky’s Joel Test. I want to talk about signs of teams that you should avoid.

This list is partially inspired by Ralph Peters’ Spotting the Losers: Seven Signs of Non-Competitive States. Of course, such a list is useless if you can’t apply it at the crucial point, when you’re interviewing. I’ve tried to include questions to ask and clues to look for that reveal dysfunction that is deeply baked into an engineering culture.

Preference for process over tools. As engineering teams grow, there are many approaches to coordinating people’s work. Most of them are some combination of process and tools. Git is a tool that enables multiple people to work on the same code base efficiently (most of the time). A team may also design a process around Git — avoiding the use of remote branches, only pushing code that’s ready to deploy to the master branch, or requiring people to use local branches for all of their development. Healthy teams generally try to address their scaling problems with tools, not additional process. Processes are hard to turn into habits, hard to teach to new team members, and often evolve too slowly to keep pace with changing circumstances. Ask your interviewers what their release cycle is like. Ask them how many standing meetings they attend. Look at the company’s job listings, are they hiring a scrum master?

Excessive deference to the leader or worse, founder. Does the group rely on one person to make all of the decisions? Are people afraid to change code the founder wrote? Has the company seen a lot of turnover among the engineering leader’s direct reports? Ask your interviewers how often the company’s coding conventions change. Ask them how much code in the code base has never been rewritten. Ask them what the process is for proposing a change to the technology stack. I have a friend who worked at a growing company where nobody was allowed to introduce coding conventions or libraries that the founding VP of Engineering didn’t understand, even though he hardly wrote any code any more.

Unwillingness to confront technical debt. Do you want to walk into a situation where the team struggles to make progress because they’re coding around all of the hacks they haven’t had time to address? Worse, does the team see you as the person who’s going to clean up all of the messes they’ve been leaving behind? You need to find out whether the team cares about building a sustainable code base. Ask the team how they manage their backlog of bugs. Ask them to tell you about something they’d love to automate if they had time. Is it something that any sensible person would have automated years ago? That’s a bad sign.

Not invented this week syndrome. We talk a lot about “not invented here” syndrome and how it affects the competitiveness of companies. I also worry about companies that lurch from one new technology to the next. Teams should make deliberate decisions about their stack, with an eye on the long term. More importantly, any such decisions should be made in a collaborative fashion, with both developer productivity and operability in mind. Finding out about this is easy. Everybody loves to talk about the latest thing they’re working with.

Disinterest in sustaining a Just Culture. What’s Just Culture? This post by my colleague John Allspaw on blameless post mortems describes it pretty well. Maybe you want to work at a company where people get fired on the spot for screwing up, or yelled at when things go wrong, but I don’t. How do you find out whether a company is like that? Ask about recent outages and gauge whether the person you ask is willing to talk about them openly. Do the people you talk to seem ashamed of their mistakes?

Monoculture. Diversity counts. Gender diversity is really important, but it’s not the only kind of diversity that matters. There’s ethnic diversity, there’s age diversity, and there’s simply the matter of people acting differently, or dressing differently. How homogenous is the group you’ve met? Do they all remind you of you? That’s almost certainly a serious danger sign. You may think it sounds like fun to work with a group of people who you’d happily have as roommates, but monocultures do a great job of masking other types of dysfunction.

Lack of a service-oriented mindset. The biggest professional mistakes I ever made were the result of failing to see that my job was ultimately to serve other people. I was obsessed with building what I thought was great software, and failed to see that what I should have been doing was paying attention to what other people needed from me in order to succeed in their jobs. You can almost never fail when you look for opportunities to be of service and avail yourself of them. Be on the lookout for companies where people get ahead by looking out for themselves. Don’t take those jobs.

There are a lot of ways that a team’s culture can be screwed up, but those are my top seven.
